HBA have remodelled this old warehouse on the south bank of the Thames in Southwark in the Tower Bridge Conservation Area. The name comes from research that discovered the site had historically been used as a goat yard, prior to the industrial revolution.
The 40,000sqft building has been fully refurbished with a new corten steel-clad rooftop pavilion and landscaped roof terrace overlooking Tower Bridge
The office floors have been stripped back to expose period brickwork and original cast iron columns with new sprayed ductwork and fan-coil units adding colour.
The split-level reception now provides level access via a larger, more visible side entrance, along with bleacher seating and planting. This new arrival experience links to a new landscaped courtyard for tenants running along the side of the building that used to be an old service yard.
Existing perforated ceiling panels were retained during the strip-out and have been resprayed and repurposed as wall and ceilings panels within the reception and common parts.
New ‘end-of-trip’ facilities have been added to the basement with cycle storage, showers, changing areas and lockers.
The unique building signage was designed by Ricky Trickartt, to give the spaces a playful nature with reference to the historic use.
