The Bottle Works, Guildford

Location | Guildford
Client | Kingsbridge Estates
Status | Completed 2024

HBA have reinvigorated this historic building in the heart of Guildford, creating 39,000 sq ft of contemporary space including a new business lounge, internal and external tenant amenity facilities.

The site contains 2no. buildings, one of which was originally used by R White and Sons Ltd for the brewing of ginger beer in the early 1900s. It then became a bottling plant for Unigate dairy in the mid-1900s. A larger modern extension was added in the 1990s and the whole building was in need of refurbishment.

The old entrance onto Stoke Road has been flipped back to the Guildford side with a new landscaped courtyard improving accessibility as well as a south-facing external amenity space for the tenants.

The reception area has been reconfigured and opened up with a link too a new business lounge that infills the courtyard to the north between the 2no. buildings.

The office floors have been redesigned to maxmise ceiling heights and the central lightwell, while the spaces in the old bottle works building now celebrate the double-height volume and high-level clerestorey glazing.

Unused areas in the basement car park have been converted into a well appointed bike store with new showers for tenants.
